Description
Calcium phosphate dibasic is anhydrous or contains two molecules of water of hydration. It occurs as a white, odorless, tasteless powder that is stable in air. It is practically insoluble in water, but is readily soluble in dilute hydrochloric and nitric acids. It is insoluble in alcohol.
Calcium phosphate dibasic is produced by the reaction of phosphoric acid, calcium chloride, and sodium hydroxide. Calcium carbonate can be used in place of the calcium chloride and sodium hydroxide.
Calcium phosphate dibasic anhydrous is generally regarded as relatively nontoxic and nonirritant material. It is widely used in oral pharmaceutical products and food products.

Application

It is also used as a tableting agent in some pharmaceutical preparations, including some products meant to eliminate body odor. Dibasic calcium phosphate is also found in some dietary calcium supplements. It is used in poultry feed. It is also used in some toothpastes as a tartar control agent and polishing agent and it is a biomaterial.
Calcium phosphate is a widely used pharmaceutical excipient as binder and filler in solid oral dosage forms which include
compressed tablets and hard gelatin capsules.Calcium Phosphates are water-insoluble functional fillers for wet granulation and direct compression applications.Various calcium phosphates are used as diluents in the pharmaceutical industry.
