Description

The effects of folic acid on organisms are mainly reflected in the following aspects: participating in the metabolism of genetic material and protein; affecting animal reproductive performance; affecting the secretion of animal pancreas; promoting the growth of animals; and improving the body's immunity.

Methyltetrahydrofolate normally refers to 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, which has the function of nourishing the body and supplementing folic acid. 5-Methyltetrahydrofolate is a substance with active functions that is converted from folic acid through a series of biochemical reactions in the human body. It can be directly used by the body in various metabolic pathways to maintain the normal operation of the body, thereby playing a role in nourishing the body.

 Function

Folic acid is a type of B vitamins, also known as pteroylglutamic acid. 5-methyltetrahydrofolate is the last step in the metabolism and transformation process of folic acid in the body. Because of its active function, it is also called active. Folic acid is a metabolic component of folic acid in the body.

Because the molecular structure of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate can be directly absorbed by the body without undergoing complicated metabolic conversion processes, it is widely present in body cells. Compared with folic acid, it is easier to supplement nutrients for the body, especially for women who need to prepare for pregnancy and pregnant women during pregnancy.

Folic acid is one of the essential vitamins for the growth and reproduction of body cells. Its deficiency will affect the normal physiological activities of the human body. Many literatures have reported that folic acid deficiency is directly related to neural tube defects, megaloblastic anemia, cleft lip and palate, depression, tumors and other diseases.

Neural tube malformations (NTDs)

Neural tube malformations (NTDs) are a group of defects caused by incomplete closure of the neural tube during embryonic development, including anencephaly, encephalocele, spina bifida, etc., and are one of the most common neonatal defects. In 1991, the British Medical Research Council confirmed for the first time that folic acid supplementation before and after pregnancy can prevent the occurrence of NTDs and reduce the incidence by 50-70%. The preventive effect of folic acid on NTDs has been considered one of the most exciting medical discoveries of the late 20th century.

Megaloblastic anemia (MA)

Megaloblastic anemia (MA) is a type of anemia caused by an impairment in DNA synthesis caused by a lack of folic acid or vitamin B12. It is more common in infants and pregnant women. Normal development of the fetus requires a large amount of folic acid reserves in the mother's body. If the folic acid reserves are depleted during labor or early postpartum, megaloblastic anemia will occur in the fetus and mother. After supplementing with folic acid, the disease can be quickly recovered and cured.

Folic acid and cleft lip and palate

Cleft lip and palate (CLP) is one of the most common congenital birth defects. The cause of cleft lip and palate is still unclear. Folic acid supplementation during early pregnancy has been proven to prevent the birth of children with cleft lip and palate.

Other illnesses

Folic acid deficiency can cause great harm to mothers and children, such as habitual miscarriage, premature birth, low birth weight, fetal indigestion and growth retardation. Many literature reports that Alzheimer's disease, depression, and neurological abnormalities in newborns and other related brain lesions are all related to folic acid deficiency. In addition, lack of folic acid may also cause tumors (uterine cancer, bronchial cancer, esophageal cancer, colorectal cancer, etc.), chronic atrophic gastritis, colitis, coronary heart disease and cerebrovascular disease, as well as other diseases such as glossitis and poor growth.  Adults who are deficient in folic acid and drink excessive amounts of alcohol may change the structure of their intestinal mucosa.

Applications

1. Women during pregnancy preparation and early pregnancy.

2. People with anemia.

3. People with high homocysteine.
