Description
Conjugated linoleic acid is a general term for a mixture of all stereoisomers and positional isomers of linoleic acid, which can be considered as a secondary derivative of linoleic acid with the molecular formula CHCOOH. The double bonds of conjugated linoleic acid can be located at positions 7 and 9, 8 and 10, 9 and 11, 10 and 12, 11 and 13, 12 and 14, with each double bond having two conformations: cis (cis or c) and trans (trans or t). In theory, conjugated linoleic acid has over 20 isomers, with c-9, t-11 and t-10, c-12 being the two most abundant isomers.
Conjugated linoleic acid is one of the indispensable fatty acids for humans and animals, but it cannot synthesize a substance with significant pharmacological effects and nutritional value on its own, which is of great benefit to human health. A large amount of literature proves that conjugated linoleic acid has certain physiological functions such as anti-tumor, antioxidant, anti-mutation, antibacterial, lowering human cholesterol, anti-atherosclerosis, improving immunity, increasing bone density, preventing and treating diabetes, and promoting growth.
