Function
Amantadine hydrochloride is a symmetrical tricyclic amine, which can inhibit the virus from penetrating into the host cell, and affect the virus's dehulling, inhibit its reproduction, and play a role in the treatment and prevention of viral infection.
Application

- Parkinson's Disease: Amantadine HCl is primarily used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by muscle rigidity, tremors, and impaired balance. It helps to improve motor function and reduce symptoms by modulating dopamine levels and NMDA receptor activity.
- Influenza A Virus Prophylaxis: Additionally, amantadine HCl is indicated for the prophylaxis of influenza A virus infections. By inhibiting the viral M2 ion channel, it prevents the virus from uncoating and replicating within host cells.
- Post-Stroke Syndrome: In some cases, amantadine HCl may also be used to treat post-stroke syndrome, particularly when it involves hemiparesis (weakness on one side of the body), to improve motor function and mobility.
